Position Description

Our Melbourne office has a position available for an experienced Systems Engineer (Min 5yrs + experience) with excellent problem solving, customer and communication skills (English speaking, reading and writing).

The ideal candidate would be experienced in delivering high quality phone, remote or occasional onsite support with a strong technical background, proven problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to support our managed services customers.

This role requires a person with sound technical knowledge, excellent communication with a flair for maintaining customer satisfaction and the ability to quickly gain and maintain the confidence of the customer in resolving requests logged through the AV Tech service desk.

Responsibilities

To help deliver AVTech’s strategy the successful candidate will be responsible for: 

  • Reporting to the Team Leader, Managed Services;
  • Provide Level 2/3 (server, business application and networking issues) support, both onsite and remotely;
  • Assist with call management and co-ordination of calls received at the Service Desk, including liaising with end users towards achieving a timely and effective call resolution. 
  • Be an escalation point and mentor to other managed services engineers.
  • Diagnose, resolve/escalate, follow-up and complete client IT issues;
  • Communicate/Liaise with third parties (i.e. ISPs, telcos, vendors);
  • Handle internal service desk systems, policies, procedures and work instructions to ensure continuous improvement and responsive and effective service is maintained.
  • Assist other Systems Engineers and Technical Consultants;
  • Provide occasional Pre-Sales Support for Account Managers.
  • Responsible for System Administration and user support of Melbourne Office and other Customers that will require on site or remote support.
  • At times assist to facilitate and grow the Advance Vision client base, primarily servicing VIC customers but at times may also be called upon to service and support interstate customers.

Skills, Experience, Qualifications and Personality Attributes

  • Skills & Experience 

    • Minimum 5+ years technical experience in supporting, implementing or administering a LAN;
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows 2000/2003/2008 Operating Systems;
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Exchange 2007/2010;
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Terminal Server 2000/2003;
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL 2000/2005/2008;
    • Strong knowledge of Antivirus and Backup software;
    • Excellent written and project documentation skills.
    • A positive, results oriented and customer focused attitude;
    • A desire to take responsibility and ownership to see actions/issues through to completion;
    • The ability to adapt to a changing environment that requires proactive and innovative solutions;
    • A flexible attitude;
    • Good presentation skills and ability to provide Pre Sales and Post Sale services and support;
    • Have experience with understanding users issues through various communication methods;
    • Efficient time management skills;
    • Ability to work independently and/or in a team.
       
  • Technical Experience
    • Cisco, Checkpoint, VMware, Marshal, CA, Novell, Trend Micro, Microsoft, HP, IBM, Quantum, NetApp, Exinda (and a number of other enterprise vendors).
  • Qualifications
    • Candidates with a Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related discipline;
    • Other known industry qualifications and certifications would be an advantage e.g. MCSE/MCITP, CCNA.

  • Non Technical Requirements

Below are non-technical requirements that the candidate MUST HAVE:

  • Live within 25-30kms radius of the Melbourne CBD;
  • Must have a car and a valid driving license (travelling will be required);
  • Have an appropriate Australia or New Zealand work visa (for non-resident candidates).
